(Finance) – The number of Italians who choose to celebrate the end of the year at restaurants is growing: the estimate comes from the FIPE-Confcommercio Study Center, according to which they will be 4.6 million expected attendance in 75,000 restaurants new Year’s Eve. Data growing by 2.2% compared to the previous year, followed by an increase double percentage of spending, That this year it will reach 433 million euros (+4.6%).

Declining, Instead, the number of restaurateurs who decided to be open for the occasion: this year will serve, in fact, 56.7% of restaurants, against 59.1% in 2022. The majority of establishments include only dinner in their offer (84.1%) for an average expense of 94 euros per person, while the remaining part, approximately 16%, has also organized a real New Year’s Eve party with shows and music, the cost of which should be around 121 euros per person.

“The trend in restaurant attendance for New Year’s Eve 2023 follows that observed for Christmasalthough to a lesser extent due to a significant number of restaurants deciding not to open on New Year’s Eve”, he declared Luciano Sbraga, Director of the FIPE-Confcommercio Study Center. “The restaurants confirm that they are a point of reference for many people not only for Christmas lunch, but also for the end-of-year dinner, both for those who just want to dine and start the new year in one of the many entertainment venues or in some square of our cities and for those who after dinner want continue the evening in the same place. Furthermore, the moderately rising prices confirm that neither on highly appealing occasions, companies in the sector adopt casual commercial policies”, concluded Sbraga.

Finally, it will be a New Year’s Eve dedicated to Made in Italy: compared to one overall estimate of 1.3 million bottles uncorked for the end-of-year toast, 59.7% of restaurants will only serve strictly Italian bubbles. On the contrary, 32% will allow their customers to choose between sparkling wine and champagne, while in 9.3% of restaurants diners will only find bubbles from beyond the Alps.
