Masters of the Air starts on Apple TV+ on January 26th. The elaborate large-scale production is one of the most anticipated series of 2024 and is part of a legendary trilogy. Oscar winners Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman created two of the best series of all time: Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Now they are back with Masters of the Air.

Masters of the Air tells an epic story inspired by true events
Band of Brothers told the story of the Western European theater of World War II. The Pacific, the follow-up to producers Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, turned its attention to the battles of East Asia. Masters of the Air is the trio’s third miniseries set during World War II. She looks up into the air.
Based on Donald L. Miller’s non-fiction book of the same name, the event series follows the 100th Bomber Group of the United States Air Force. The “Bloody Hundredth” flies dangerous attacks over Nazi Germany, which is why the pilots are exposed to extreme stressful situations. Thousands of meters above the ground they fight with opponents, forces of nature and their own psychological stress. Only together can they overcome these challenges.

Band of Brothers and The Pacific stood out authentic reenactment of war experiences because the stories were based on the real experiences of soldiers and officers. This also applies to Masters of the Air. The new challenge of the miniseries are the air battles, which were created to be as realistic as possible with elaborate visual effects. Fans of Band of Brothers, 1917 or Dunkirk can look forward to outstanding action and complex characters.
Big stars in front of and behind the camera
The blockbuster series features an impressive ensemble. Elvis star Austin Butler is there, as are Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts), Sex Education fan favorite Ncuti Gatwa, Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Anthony Boyle (The Plot Against America).
Behind the scenes, Masters of the Air is also full of big names. While Hanks, Spielberg and Goetzman are on board as producers, they were able to sign, among others, Cary Joji Fukunaga (James Bond 007 – No Time to Die) and Dee Rees (Mudbound) to direct.
