SVT Nyheter has mapped the median time for how long it takes for the ambulance to arrive for priority 1 alarms – the most serious alarms. In Stockholm, the response time for priority 1 alarms has increased by almost two and a half minutes from 2010 to 2023.
The Street Association was formed in the aftermath of all the shootings and they train civilians in how to stop a bleeding. According to the association, there has been an increased interest and commitment to learning how to stop bleeding recently.
– We have experienced an increased number of shootings and explosions in our areas and this creates concern but also a desire to change it, says Pär Plüschke from Gatan’s association.
Response time for ambulance one of the reasons
At the same time, he says that the response time for the ambulance is perceived to be long. In several incidents, civilians have been the first on the scene and did not know how to act.
– Many people we meet say; “If I had known this before, I could have made a difference for this person,” says Pär Plüschke.
