At least one person has been killed and four injured in a Russian attack on a train station in the city of Kherson in Ukraine, a Ukrainian minister announced.
“Evening in Kherson. About 140 civilians waiting for an evacuation train. It was the time when the enemy launched a large-scale bombing attack on the city,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko writes on Telegram.
One policeman was killed, and two policemen and two civilians were injured by shrapnel, he adds.
According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, “a number of civilians were present” at the time of the bombing. The Ukrainian railway company states on Telegram that a train and the station had been damaged, but that “the situation is under control and train traffic is ready to continue running”.
The city of Kherson was occupied by Russian troops shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. However, under pressure from Ukrainian forces, the Russians retreated to the other side of the Dnieper River.
Since then, the city has been under Russian bombardment. On Sunday, Russian attacks left at least five civilians dead, and during the night of Monday at least one more civilian was killed, according to the Ukrainian military.
