Fritz Meinecke is the inventor of the popular outdoor show “7 vs. Wild”. But things didn’t go well for him in season 3. Now he comments on his own appearance and answers fans’ questions on Twitch.
Why were there so many questions about Fritz Meinecke’s performance at 7 vs. Wild?
Now that the episode with his elimination was on YouTube, he wanted to answer the fans’ questions in detail.

The next time he was in a situation like this, he would stock up more water
What would Fritz Meinecke do differently today? EiOne of the questions Meinecke answered on Twitch was: Why didn’t he stock up on water?
In fact, he says, he would do it differently now: If he were again in a situation where he was using a “shallow water source that is close to the sea,” he would try to stock up on supplies for 3 to 4 days.
He did collect water supplies on day 2, but only for one day: he and Mattin used the supplies on day 2 while building the shelter and searching for food. When they were finished, darkness had already fallen and the two of them went to sleep instead of topping up their water supplies at the distant spring at night.
Why not just make a dowsing rod?
What were the strangest questions? Probably the strangest question to Meinecke was whether he could have built a dowsing rod and looked for sources of fresh water.
Meinecke answered dryly: That would indeed have been possible, but he would also have had to take his tarot cards and his crystal ball with him.
He also didn’t see the idea of drinking his own urine as a solution:
“Drinking piss also dehydrates you. If you drink really dark yellow urine, that’s not smart.”
Likewise, “building a well” was not a realistic option.
The brackish water from the moor could have been boiled – but that wouldn’t have changed the fact that it was “sour”.
That was the central question: Meinecke was asked why he didn’t walk the salty river to the source, but stopped after about half a kilometer.
Meinecke says: He was of the opinion that the rule from previous seasons of only moving within a limited radius around the camp applied. Although he only received the correct limit for one direction from the organization team, he assumed that the old rules still applied. So he didn’t want to go too far down the river.
When asked why he doesn’t simply break such rules, he replied:
“What kind of message is that? Think about it from an external perspective: What kind of message does it send if I now break the rules of my own project, the rules that I helped set in season 1? That’s… no, I don’t feel that at all.”
What is he angry about? Above all, you can tell that Fritz Meinecke is annoyed that he doesn’t have any in-depth knowledge of the topic of “salted drinking water” but rather that he was clueless about the situation. He had to simply accept Survival Mattin’s assessment (“There’s salt in it, you can’t drink it, it destroys your kidneys”).
He says that he knows that you shouldn’t drink sea water, but he actually lacked the knowledge about how salty water is drinkable. And without this knowledge, he didn’t want to contradict another survival expert who had been doing this for 10 years and start a big discussion.
In retrospect, Meinecke sees no solution to the drinking water problem
Was the lack of motivation a problem? Meinecke admits that the mood and mindset of him and Survival Mattin were not good for many reasons.
But he doesn’t believe that a “super-hyped” mindset could have changed much about the drinking water situation. The mindset perhaps contributed to the fact that you didn’t last another night. But ultimately this would only have been able to delay the inevitable elimination a little.
Even months later, he still couldn’t think of a way out that could have prevented him from being eliminated.
What is he hoping for? Meinecke says: There will be another “aha moment” in the later episodes of the season:
“There will be a little plot twist in this series. I think the people who saw this on Freevee know what I’m talking about.”

what does he mean with that?
The spot of the “Trymacs and Rumathra” team was relatively close to the spot of Meinecke and Survival Mattin – they were about 6 kilometers away, on the same beach.
When they also ran out of drinking water later in the season, they made a forced march and arrived at Meinecke and Survival Mattin’s spot: There they found traces of the two, but also only salty drinking water and therefore had to be picked up.
YouTube users will see this “plot twist” in a few weeks. Meinecke probably suspects that his performance will then be assessed differently: Even if Meinecke could have waited a week for a better situation, his fresh water source would still have been salty.
