Disney+ * may not have as many new series as Netflix, but here too there is an impressive selection of worthwhile entertainment at the end of the year. The list ranges from crime novels to fantasy to historical fiction and includes both German and international productions. We introduce you to the best Disney+ series, ordered by their rating on Moviepilot. (Data as of December 21, 2023)
In order to select the 15 best Disney+ series 2023 To be included, the series had to have been published from January 1, 2023. Both Disney+ original productions and series that started exclusively on Disney+ in Germany were counted. In addition, the series had to have collected at least 20 Moviepilot reviews in order to make a meaningful contribution here. (As a result, very fresh starts such as the fantasy series Percy Jackson did not make it into the selection.) In addition, only completely new series, not new seasons, were taken into account.

The Good Mothers – S01 Trailer (German) HD
The original Italian production The Good Mothers is a 6-part Disney+ miniseries based on true events: In 2010, three women who were born into the most dangerous mafia in the country decide to take down the ‘Ndrangheta clan from the inside with the help of a courageous lawyer to bring down.
4th place in the Disney+ series in 2023: American Born Chinese
American Born Chinese – S01 Trailer (English) HD
The comic adaptation American Born Chinese comes on Disney+ as a well-developed action comedy and confronts an American student with the deities of his Chinese ancestors: coming-of-age meets martial arts. It’s just a shame that so far hardly anyone in Germany has had this furious fantasy mix full of strange ideas on their radar.
3rd place in the Disney+ series 2023: Fleishman is in Trouble
Fleishman Is in Trouble – Trailer (English) HD
Right at the beginning of 2023, Disney+ exclusively released the FX production Fleishman Is in Trouble in Germany. In the 8 episodes of the drama series, Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) plays a man who has recently separated after 15 years of marriage (to Claire Danes). He’s now trying to get his life back under control between fatherly duties and attempts to start dating again.
2nd place in the Disney+ series 2023: Extraordinary
Extraordinary – S01 Trailer (German) HD
Where it says Extraordinary, there is also something “extraordinary” in it: The British feel-good comedy produced for the star sector surprised everyone in January as an unexpected fantasy highlight on Disney+ and offered a fresh look at being a superhero. Because in a world in which everyone receives a (often quite useless) special ability when they grow up, 27-year-old Jen in her shared apartment is very annoyed that she is apparently the only one who was left out of the power distribution.
1st place in the Disney+ series in 2023: A spark of hope
A Spark of Hope: Anne Frank’s Helper – S01 Trailer (German) HD
As a miniseries with 8 episodes, the historical drama A Spark of Hope achieved the highest ratings of a Disney+ series this year: It tells the touching story of the Dutch woman Miep Gies (Bel Powley), who hides Anne Frank’s family with her during the Second World War.
