The man allegedly assaulted the owner of the vehicle, but was detained until police could arrive.
A 50-year-old man was charged with assault and theft and later released with a short date, police said.
Man charged with break and enter
A man was arrested after Chatham-Kent police responded to a break and enter in progress at a commercial property in Chatham Sunday.
Police said a suspect was seen on surveillance video attempting to break into a locked property.
The suspect fled when police arrived but was arrested after a short search, police said.
A 23-year-old Chatham man was charged with break and enter and released with a court date, police said.
