One of the best films of all time whose original

The original book for LA Confidential is based on true events and covers many years of action. That’s why it was considered unfilmable for a long time. But Curtis Hanson and his incredible star ensemble still managed to do it, and with flying colors: Today you can watch one of the best films of all time on TV.

That’s what LA Confidential is all about

In the Hollywood in the 1950s All hell breaks loose: Three completely different police officers investigate an explosive murder case together, more or less involuntarily. Their methods couldn’t be more different: Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey) is a vain dude who cooperates with television and newspapers for money.

Bud White (Russell Crowe) is the man for the rough and sometimes uses somewhat unorthodox methods (read: violence) to get a confession. Then there’s Ed Exley (Guy Pearce), a over-correct careerist who makes himself unpopular with his colleagues.

All three get into one wild whirlwind of violence and crime. Actually, only a relatively simple case was supposed to be solved, but in the end those involved get entangled in one gigantic conspiracywhich, among other things, has to do with a porn ring and the call girl Lynn Bracken (Kim Basinger).

Warner

LA Confidential shines with an absolutely star cast.

Supposedly unfilmable, LA Confidential turned the original into one of the best films ever

LA Confidential is based on the 1990 book of the same name (City of Devils in German) by James Ellroy. The plot spans eight years and is quite complicated to the point of convoluted. Here real events are mixed with fictional criminal cases and the whole thing includes significantly more content than the film.

But LA Confidential managed to break down the complicated plot in an extremely condensed manner. Nothing is lost in the excitement and we get it with a real classic and Heavyweight of the neo-noir genre to do. If you like hard-boiled detective stories, this is definitely the right place for you.

We owe this not only to director Curtis Hanson and actors such as Guy Pearce, Russel Crowe, Danny DeVito and Kim Basinger (who also won an Oscar for her role here), but of course also to co-screenwriter Brian Helgeland and the Score by Jerry Goldsmith and cinematography by Dante Spinotti.
