Petrolias historic library will close for five weeks for renovations

Petrolia’s historic library will be closed for almost five weeks due to renovations.

The work begins April 3, with an anticipated reopening date of May 7.

All in-person services and programming will be unavailable during this time, while curbside pickup and book return bins will also not be functioning.

Library patrons are encouraged to visit nearby library locations in Wyoming, Alvinston, Oil Springs and Brigden, or use eLibrary services from the comfort of their own homes.

Renovations at the library will include an upgrade to the children’s library, improved accessibility and customer service improvements. New shelving, flooring, paint and upgraded access to technology will also be part of the renovation project, as will the installation of an Early Literacy Station inside the children’s library.

The Town of Petrolia will refinish the hardwood floors during the library’s closure and will make needed repairs to exterior doors and electrical.

Renovations were made possible through the support of a donation from the estate of Otto and Kathleen Morrow Shuldt.

The library was built as a railway station in 1903, and was used as such until 1930.
