It’s not just a difficult sport for Umeå BSKT, which is in second last place in the Swedish basketball league – the club is in an acute financial crisis. With debts to the Tax Agency and creditors of just over SEK 800,000 and a debt with an installment plan to Umeå municipality of SEK 500,000, the club’s existence is threatened.
– I don’t even dare to speculate on what will happen to the club if we don’t get money now, says Andreas Bergerli, chairman of Umeå BSKT.
Must bring in half a million
During the autumn, the club has worked on getting the finances on the right side. A new management team was formed in November to address the financial situation. A financial survey shows that you now urgently need to bring in SEK 500,000 mainly for tax debts.
Now the association hopes that both private individuals and companies who have the opportunity to support financially will do so. Among other things, a supporters’ club has been started to raise money. In a few days, they have received close to SEK 250,000.
– In just over a week, we have received about half, says Magnus Lindblom from the management group.
The club writes in a dispatch that they hope that the call for financial help is heeded and that they will return on December 28 with information about the club’s future.
