The vehicle that crashed in the town of Meridian, Oklahoma, USA, caught fire when the driver lost control of the steering wheel.
County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Yerby arrived at the scene and took the woman trapped inside the vehicle out by breaking the window.
According to police body camera footage, the terrified woman, who Yerby took out of the vehicle and laid her on the ground, told her that she had broken her ankle and asked him not to leave her alone.
Trying to calm the woman down, Yerby called the medical teams and called an ambulance. Seconds after the police rescued the woman, it was seen that the flames surrounded the entire vehicle.
“IF THE POLICE WAS DELAYED, THE WOMAN COULD HAVE DIE”
Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson called Matthew Yerby a hero and said that the door of the vehicle did not open during the incident and the driver was trapped. “Deputy Yerby, without even considering his own safety, rushed to the burning vehicle and rescued the woman. If he had hesitated even for a second or two, the woman could have been killed,” Johnson said. (UAV)
