“I don’t think you’ve read it”

The new climate action plan has been presented.

The government and the Sweden Democrats have put forward around 50 new measures, with the goal of Sweden reducing net emissions of greenhouse gases.

However, the plan is far from sufficient. That is the opinion of the Center Party, the Green Party and the Left Party, who want to depose Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) through a vote of no confidence.

According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the plans already existed before the climate action plan was presented.

Words – no actions

On Thursday evening, Pourmokhtari meets the Green Party’s new spokesperson Daniel Helldén in a debate about the climate plan – led by TV4’s political commentator Ulf Kristofferson.

– If you read the climate action plan, it contains a lot of words, but there are no measures for how to deal with climate emissions. We have this decade to bring them down sharply and the government is going to increase them hugely next year. What will come is only paper and air and investigations, says Helldén.

– In this action plan, there are around 70 measures that will be implemented or started during this term. Many are short-term, they are not as sharply focused on putting all the eggs in the same basket as you did, but it is a broad palette of many measures, exactly what the research is also asking for, Pourmokhtari answers.

The overarching goal of the government’s new climate action plan is to reach net zero emissions by 2045. New nuclear power is singled out as the single most important measure to get there.

The question is: Will the government achieve the goal?

– If you look at the climate action plan, there is nothing to show this. It’s 260 pages of words without any action. And that’s what everyone says. You talk to the environmental movement, you talk to the researchers, you talk to the business world. It’s empty. Everyone wants measures that allow us to reduce emissions now, but it is not there and it is so embarrassing, says Helldén.

– If you start by reading the climate action plan, which I find it hard to believe that you have done considering how many pages it is and that it was published a few hours ago, then you will see that there are certainly sharp proposals there. Then there is order in Sweden, you can’t just introduce policy at random, you have to investigate and analyze, Pourmokhtari answers.
