Mother of Olympia, 6 years old, and little Adira River, born last August, Serena Williams made a special donation for young mothers during a visit to New York.
Since becoming a mother, Serena Williams has shown great sensitivity and even more generosity. Mother of a little girl named Olympia and aged six, the tennis player recently welcomed another baby in August 2023, whose name is Adira River Ohanian. For her two children, Serena Williams opted for breastfeeding. But she is also aware that some mothers, who wish to breastfeed, lack milk or simply cannot breastfeed their newborns. Many maternity wards in the United States also lack breast milk, which is essential for premature babies.
During a trip to New York this December 20, it was therefore a special gesture that the tenniswoman decided to make, by donating the surplus of her breast milk. “After undergoing a selection, I was able to donate it instead of bringing the milk home“, she said in the caption of a video published on her Instagram account.
“I know so many amazing women who adopt or are unable to produce milk” she added. For Serena Williams, this donation, made just before the Christmas holidays, represents an “incredible” experience. In her video, we can see that the milk she describes as a “super-soldier” was frozen in quantity, since several freezer bags are stored there. She also specifies that this donation will be anonymous, as is the procedure.
