Sony announced that 50 million units of PS5 have been sold since its launch in November 2020. This success was achieved by overcoming supply issues related to Covid-19, with the console reaching the PS4’s sales milestone just a week later.
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s head of global marketing, Eric Lempel, stated that PlayStation sales reached record levels in terms of both units and revenue last month. The company aims to ship 25 million PS5 consoles with its current fiscal year ending in March 2024. If this goal is achieved, it will equal the record that has stood for 25 years for the original PlayStation, which shipped 22.6 million units in a single year.
According to Sony, PS5 has the potential to exceed the PS4’s lifetime sales total of 117 million units, just three years after launch. Lempel also expressed his belief that the system could achieve this great success.
