When Glynn Simmons was released from prison in July, he had been behind bars for more than 48 years.

Now the 71-year-old has also been declared innocent of the robbery-murder he was convicted of in 1975.

Simmons and another man, Don Roberts, were convicted of robbing a store clerk in Oklahoma the day before New Year’s Eve 1974. Roberts was released in 2008, but Simmons has remained in prison.

They were convicted after a teenager who was shot in the robbery pointed them out, which was later disputed. Both also claimed that they were not even in the state when the crime was committed.

Doubts about their guilt prompted a judge to release Simmons this summer, but he was still considered guilty at the time. Now Judge Amy Palumbo has declared him not guilty.

– This is a day I have been waiting for for a long, long time. Today we can say that justice has finally prevailed, says Simmons.

– What has been done cannot be undone, but it can be made good, he says about possibly applying for , who can now apply for damages.
