Therese Johaug’s great concern – after Charlotte Calla’s announcement about the future: “Concerned”

Charlotte Kalla and Therese Johaug have been rivals in the tracks.
But when the Norwegian got the news about Kalla, there was concern.
– I was a little concerned, says Johaug in the podcast “The road to the top”.

During their careers, Charlotte Kalla and Therese Johaug have been great rivals on the ski slopes. But outside they have formed a friendship that has lasted even now after their careers.

Johaug’s new life

When Kalla won the Tour de Ski in 2008 and made a real breakthrough, Johaug had already won his first WC medal the year before. Despite the fact that they come from the rival countries of Sweden and Norway, a friendship was formed between the skaters, after having both competed and trained together. That friendship stands strong. Kalla was at Johaug’s bachelor party, and is also invited to the Norwegian’s wedding on New Year’s Eve.

Both skiers ended their careers in 2022, and they both had children this year.
– I told my friends who are parents that “yes, I understand that it is big and this and that”. But now I understand that I didn’t know a damn thing. You have to experience it yourself to feel what it means to have a child, says Johaug in the podcast “Vägen till toppen” with Camilla Nordlund.

The concern for Kalla

Johaug’s daughter Christine was born in May, and Calla’s son Alvin was born a couple of months later. The new motherhood has been an adjustment for Therese.
– I knew that you have to put your life aside, but you become very locked in when you have children. It’s not just putting on the shoes and things taking two minutes, here you have to count on half an hour before and after when you’re going to do things.

The 35-year-old also says that there was some concern for her when Kalla came out with her pregnancy shortly after she had done it herself.
– I was a little concerned, because there have been many duels between Johaug and Kalla over the years. So I went out and told them I was pregnant and then Charlotte came right after. Then I thought “hey hey, now there will be new duels”. The good thing is that I had a daughter and she had a son. Then they can wreak havoc in each class, says Johaug in the podcast.
