Even 2 new classes and a new region

It’s been quiet about the MMORPG Black Desert Online for a long time, but publisher Pearl Abyss announced new content for this year’s Calpheon Ball: In addition to a new region inspired by Seol, you can look forward to many updates and quality-of-life changes. The highlight? The new class Scholar.

The MMORPG Black Desert Online started in 2014 and will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year. Publisher and developer Pearl Abyss is far from finished with development:

A lot of updates were announced during this year’s Calpheon Ball, a live stream about the game and its community. We have the details for you.

2 new classes and a new region bring a breath of fresh air to Black Desert

What new classes are there? During the Calpheon Ball, the Scholar was announced. In the trailer, the class is represented by a red-haired woman with glasses and a beret. You can see the trailer here:

As a scholar, you fight with your wits and a lot of muscle strength. Unlike the class of the same name in Final Fantasy 14, you are absolutely hands-on here:

Your character summons two oversized hammers with which you can beat up your opponents in close combat. For particularly heavy attacks, the two hammers are merged into an even larger hammer. Although you fight up close and personal with the class, the focus is on powerful area-of-effect attacks.

Here you can see how exactly it fights with the Scholar:

Is there another new class? A second class was actually announced: A male class that uses a sword, a pipe, and the power of Do, Black Desert Online’s version of magic.

There is currently no further information about this class. It will only appear in 2024 with the second part of the update.

What kind of new region awaits you? The new region is part of The Land of the Morning Light and is intended to be a historical version of South Korea’s own capital, Seoul. Most of the influences are said to be taken from the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty.

In addition to external influences, the new lore is also influenced by Korea’s history. So you can look forward to historical references.

What other changes have been announced? In addition to the highlights with the new class and the new region, Pearl Abyss had a lot of other adjustments in its bag:

  • the new Fallen God tier weapons, which are intended to surpass the currently strongest PEN Blackstar weapons
  • There should be fewer loading screens
  • Inventory management should be simplified
  • Old questlines will (continue to be) updated with new cutscenes, voice-overs, etc.
  • A new quest search function has been announced
  • Monster grind zones are buffed
  • When can you play the changes? The new update and thus the new content will appear in two parts. Part one and therefore the Scholar have been in testing since December 17th. The official release date is December 20th. Part 2 will most likely not go online until 2024.
