Shortly after six o’clock on Sunday morning, the emergency services received an alarm about a traffic accident on the E22. A tanker with a trailer had driven off the road.
– The tanker is loaded with sulfuric acid and it must be taken care of, says Mikael Kalered, officer on duty at the rescue service.
Chemical divers will be on site during the work to empty the truck of diesel and sulfuric acid before it can be salvaged.
Unclear prognosis
The road is closed in both directions between Valdemarsvik and Gusum and traffic is being diverted. Right now, the rescue service cannot say how long the operation will take.
– Our hope is that we can be ready for lunch, but if we’re unlucky it could be until 4pm, says Mikael Kalered.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the accident. There is currently no danger to people or the environment.
