Pirates of the Caribbean 4 spelled the end of the series
The second pirate adventure is the most successful part of the series, but Pirates of the Caribbean 4 was the only film in the franchise to break the billion mark in terms of revenue and was only just behind it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Despite high audience numbers, the pirate adventures from On Stranger Tides onwards declined in quality. This is also reflected in the rating numbers. After part 3, Gore Verbinski’s self-contained first trilogy also ended. Then the Pirates of the Caribbean had toReorient yourself and suddenly find themselves without their main characters Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). The mermaid love story with Sam Claflin and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey couldn’t make up for her absence either.
And despite all the enthusiasm for fan-favorite Captain Jack Sparrow, the sequels from then on lacked a consistent story and became increasingly as “Profit-oriented exploitation” of the popular film series (via Meta-Critic). Six years after the last Pirates of the Caribbean entry, the next film Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is not making much progress with its project, to revive the series. Whether it will actually see the light of the big screen at some point is currently unclear.
Pirates of the Caribbean – On Stranger Tides took the first big step in the downward trend of a previously celebrated adventure franchise.
