(Finance) – The CEO of the FS Italiane Group, Luigi Ferraris, was appointed new President of the Europe Regionfor the period 2024-2025, by the UIC Europa Regional Assembly. The UIC (International Union of Railways) is the international organization that brings together railways and the main railway stakeholders from around the world.
Ferraris takes over from Network Rail’s Martin Frobisher as head of EMC, the European Management Committee. The appointment comes following the Committee’s proposal at its September 2023 meeting.
“I am honored to hold this prestigious position for the next two years. Together with my fellow CEOs of other European railway companies, represented by UIC, we will work to develop the initiatives and projects of the UIC Europe Region and to face the many challenges that await us. The development of rail transport – underlined Ferraris – in a perspective of growing decarbonisation will be our main objective, while digitalisation and innovation will be our enabling factors. I am sure that from the close collaboration between technical progress and the political agenda of the European Union great results can be achieved.”
There first meeting of the EMC under the new presidency will be held on February 19, 2024 in Rome. A fundamental step to establish the roadmap, strategies and priorities for the coming years for the UIC Europe Region.
The CEO of the FS Group, in his role as President of the UIC Europe Region, will therefore work closely with the other European members to promote a competitive, sustainable and attractive rail transport system for the over 500 million citizens throughout Europe.
