Short films are said to be the infancy of cinematographic art, the obligatory step to learning one’s craft before moving on to the long format. However, it is not necessarily easy to keep things short. And then well-established filmmakers continued to make short films throughout their careers!
But we often spot talent during short film festivals: the one in Clermont-Ferrand, in France, distinguished Cédric Klapisch, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Thomas Vinterberg very early on.
This shows the importance of such a meeting, an essential link in a chain which, from production to theatrical exhibition, can help boost an entire industry.
This is currently the case in Dakar, Senegal, where the 6th edition of Dakar Court.
We are in duplex with the RFI studio in Dakar where we find the filmmaker Moly Kane, who created Dakar Court, the director Ramata Toulaye-Sy, whose first feature film Banel et Adama was in competition at the last Cannes Film Festival and represents Senegal in the race for the Oscar for best foreign film, and producer Oumar Sall whose production house Cinekap has supported, in particular, the projects of Alain Gomis (Tey, Félicité…) and Mati Diop (Atlantique) .
