On Thursday evening, an X2000 train suffered a wheel damage between Stockholm and Gothenburg. The nine trains that are now stopped have the same type of wheels as the train that was damaged and will now be driven without passengers to places where they can be inspected before being put back into service.
It is unclear how long the inspection will take and how many departures will be cancelled.
— As the trains are spread out in Sweden, they have to get to a place where we can examine them, the X-ray machines are not everywhere. It is also a matter of staffing, we must have staff who can handle the trains when they come in, says SJ’s press communicator Marcus Fleetwood.
The traffic between the country’s three major cities is most affected by the stop, as the X2000 trains mainly operate on those routes.
How is Christmas traffic affected?
— We hope it will not be affected, but it is too early to say anything before we have had time to examine all the vehicles, says Fleetwood.
The train that suffered the wheel damage had undergone service and maintenance. The damage will now be investigated, according to SJ.
