Through the exceptional collection of paintings, drawings and letters, the Musée d’Orsay brings visitors back to life the last 70 days of Vincent Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise, a village so popular with the Impressionists. A place where Van Gogh, suffering from psychological disorders, will explore a creative expressiveness unparalleled in the history of art.

It is an exhibition filled with energy, flamboyance in the lines and in the colors that escape from the paintings. Country landscapes, village homes, still lifes, some portraits too… 74 paintings, but also 33 drawings, letters and personal objects (a palette, a sketchbook), which bring us to life in the last 70 days of Vincent Van Goghhis final stay in Auvers-sur-Oise, this place so popular with the Impressionists.

This is where Van Gogh died on July 29, 1890, two days after shooting himself in the chest. Until the end, he painted, searched, experimented, explored new formats and new colors, with the creative expressiveness that accompanied his psychological suffering. For the first time, an exhibition focuses on the last two months of the painter’s life, and reveals all its diversity and richness.
