With Yu Yu Hakusho, the next anime film adaptation from Netflix started on December 14, 2023, which promises spectacular demon fights and action. The 5-part fantasy series adapts the legendary manga by Yoshihiro Togashi and its anime adaptation from the 90s.

The original for Yu Yu Hakusho appeared in the early 1990s and is considered a cult among anime fans. The Shonen work is much less known in this country, as neither manga nor anime have yet been published in German. After over 30 years, that may now change with the live-action adaptation.

This Performance capture technology with 360 degree environments allowed the series creators to have real characters and elaborately animated CGI opponents interact or fight with each other in a realistic way. Tomofumi Akahane, who is responsible for the visual effects, said:
We were able to do more than any other Japanese title and achieve a level of quality where the average viewer wouldn’t be able to tell that the CGI was CGI.
A lot of time was invested in the effects of Yu Yu Hakusho. After filming in 2021, the project was in post-production for two years. The series is backed by the Japanese studio Robot, which already produced the manga adaptation Alice in Borderland for Netflix and most recently co-produced the monster film hit Godzilla: Minus One.
