A six-year-old boy drowned during a sports lesson at a school in Skanör-Falsterbo in Vellinge municipality. Three pedagogues and the school’s principal are now also sentenced by the Court of Appeal for work environment violations. Just like in the district court, the sentence becomes a suspended sentence and a fine.

After the fatal accident in a swimming pool at the school in August 2020, the four school employees were charged with causing the death of another. At the time of the accident, 40 children and three adults were present. Several of the children did not know how to swim. The municipality has tightened its bathing routines after the accident.

The Court of Appeal also makes the same assessment as the District Court regarding Vellinge municipality’s corporate fine. It is set at SEK 1.5 million.
