Farming old raids is part of everyday life in World of Warcraft for many people. Why this often doesn’t work was explained in a developer discussion.
If you don’t have anything to do in World of Warcraft, try out old content. At least there is still a lot to earn there now – not strong equipment, but transmog, pets or achievements.
The raids from the previous expansion are usually far too difficult, but the raids from the penultimate addon offer a solid challenge.
This is also what Blizzard wanted. During a live chat with the Community Council, the developers revealed a few details about how exactly they envision this and what the goals behind it are.
How strong do you get in the new addon? Blizzard has very clear ideas about how strong the characters will become over the course of an add-on. The guideline here is a multiplier of 5. This means that at the end of “Dragonflight” you should be around 5x as strong as at the end of “Shadowlands”.
This in turn also means that at the end of Dragonflight you will be a good 25x as strong as you were in Battle for Azeroth and then 125x as strong as you were in Legion.
This results in the difficulty of old raids:
What’s the problem with old raids? Old raids often have to be edited later by Blizzard so that they can also be played solo. Because many bosses have abilities that require several players. Be it areas that have to be absorbed by several characters or different goals that have to be fulfilled at the same time – there are some mechanics that simply cannot be played alone.
Blizzard would like to adapt all Battle for Azeroth raids “before the end of Dragonflight” so that fights with special group mechanics work differently if you are alone. They’ve always done this in previous expansions, but the community’s desire for it seems to grow each time.
Is farming old raids worth it? That probably depends on what you would like. If you’re interested in completing your wardrobe, you might want to wait a little longer before farming old raids. Because with the start of the next expansion “The War Within” (or the pre-patch 11.0) you can also unlock transmog for armor classes that you cannot use yourself.
In the future, magicians can unlock plates – or warriors can also add fabric clothes to the transmog collection. Then farming old raids for transmog is much more efficient.
Do you like going on old raids? Or is it impossible to attract you with such content?
The first tests of “The War Within” are now taking place – the first realm is online.
