Gironde opposition to new oil drilling

This is one of the key points of the agreement reached this Wednesday, December 13 at COP28 in Dubai: “Make a transition away from fossil fuels”. And yet, in the southwest of France, new oil drilling could soon be authorized. A public inquiry commission said: favorable » to the project of the Canadian company Vermilion to exploit eight new oil wells. It is now up to the prefect to authorize or prohibit the project. But in Gironde, this possible authorization arouses concern among environmental defenders in a region ravaged by mega forest fires in the summer of 2022.
