Emma Ribom, 26, is the skiing world’s sprint queen. In Trondheim, she can take her third consecutive World Cup victory.
Training inspired by Charlotte Kalla is an explanation for the success.
– I am curious and motivated to succeed. Finding ways forward drives me as a person, says Emma Ribom about the training based on Kalla’s model.
Magnus Ingesson trained for many years Charlotte Kalla. Now he is a coach for both Emma Ribom and Jonna Sundling. Magnus Ingesson says that he has now transferred many of the experiences he gained together with Charlotte Kalla to his new skiing stars.
He says, among other things, that the first years of training with Charlotte Kalla were based mostly on feeling:
– She wanted to train more because it felt good in her body. But then things got out of hand sometimes. Then it was important to pull the handbrake.
Called success
Magnus Ingesson remembers that the training at the end of Charlotte Kalla’s career included much more follow-up and measurement of the body’s status.
– The parameters of the tuning pass showed in black and white that it is now too bad. Now we have to recover, says Magnus Ingesson.

He has brought these experiences to Emma Ribom and Jonna Sundling. And they have had no comments.
– They know that I have been involved for a long time and worked that way. Now there is a lot of follow-up, parameters and measurement. We have become good at that. They like numbers and the possibility to agree, says Magnus Ingesson.
And Emma Ribom herself confirms that.
– We have our standard passports, which I have a good grasp of and often follow up on. This means that we know where we stand and where we are going. Magnus Ingesson has a knowledge that contributes to a sense of security for me.
Ribom’s success
Magnus Ingesson started training Emma Ribom just over two years ago and introduced several major changes in her routine, apart from the tests.
There was more focus on recovery. Strength training was increased to make the body more stable. They found a better training balance throughout the year. The interval sessions gained new angles. The restart after illnesses was made more calm.

The top results came directly last winter, which included three individual World Cup victories, a World Cup gold and a World Cup silver. All in a sprint. This season, Ribom has started with two sprint victories in the World Cup.
– I have had a nice continuity for a long time with what I have done, says Emma Ribom and continues:
– I’m glad it works. It’s not something I had expected because I had a difficult autumn with a lot of illnesses. But have thought that the season is long and that we work our way into this.
This weekend the World Cup lands in Trondheim. It will be a weekend with both wind and rain.
– I hope for a good feeling, but it looks special and is something completely different from what we had earlier this year, which is exciting. It means packing both a rain jacket and rain pants, says Emma Ribom.
