Between 2016 and 2022, Capio has recorded an average of every fourth visit to special housing for the elderly as an emergency. Although it is high in comparison with, for example, the competitor Familjeläkarna, which registered an average of every eleven visits as emergency, the region has not reacted. It is something that Capio also pointed out in his email responses to SVT.
– We have not reacted to the fact that there was a pattern that deviated from what it looked like before, says Christoffer Bernsköld, department manager for community health care within Region Stockholm.
For each emergency visit, Capio receives an extra 750 kroner in compensation, and in our review we have been able to prove through whistleblowers and documentation that the company erroneously carried out emergency visits instead of regular, planned care visits and registered visits as urgent when they should have been registered as planned.
– It’s a hoax, a whistleblower told SVT.
The department head: May consider terminating the contract
After our disclosure, Region Stockholm has decided to investigate Capio and their emergency registrations.
– If there are very large errors or very extensive deficiencies, we can always consider whether to terminate an agreement. But then we first have to look and see what results we get in the review, says Christoffer Bernsköld.
Capio has declined to participate in an interview, but writes in an email to SVT that they take the allegations seriously and that they will now investigate the information internally.
