Russian army calls up disabled – kindred races

Russia’s Defense Ministry is establishing assault units for disabled people, reports Kyiv Post. Soldiers with severe injuries and illnesses may be recruited into the ongoing war – something that makes relatives furious.
– They have only one goal: To finish the unfinished business, says the wife of a seriously injured Russian soldier who has been recruited, to the newspaper.

Russia is now establishing assault units for disabled people where soldiers with severe injuries and illnesses are recruited into the army.

In November, a change to army recruitment medicals was proposed to take “experience of a military operation” into account and exclude illnesses that “do not significantly affect the ability to perform military duties”. This means that conscripts can be sent back to the front lines in assault units without time for recovery or medical care for their injuries.

Infected hole in leg

An example is the soldier Mikhail who was injured by shrapnel in April 2023. He still has an infected hole in his leg that is getting bigger every month, his wife told the Kyiv Post. Nevertheless, he is one of many wounded soldiers who have now been cleared by a medical and are therefore at risk of being sent back to the front line.

Several doctors also testify to the newspaper that they have received orders to send soldiers back to the war with approved medical examinations.

Can’t get anything other than liquid nutrition down

Despite the fact that he is badly injured and is only getting liquid nutrition, Mikhail’s bags are packed. Any day now he could be sent off to war again.

– There is no one there who can give them care. They have only one goal: To finish the unfinished business, Mikhail’s wife told the newspaper.

Several hundred disabled and sick conscripts are now waiting to be sent back to the front in the assault units for ‘rehabilitation’ – from there they can then be sent back into the war.
