Why you should trade old Pokémon with your friends now

An important new bonus is active in Pokémon GO: You can now get more guaranteed lucky Pokémon through a lucky exchange.

This is what’s going on in Pokémon GO: The new event “Hard Times” has started and brings with it some bonuses. This also includes a change to the guaranteed luck exchange.

What’s new in Happiness Exchange? There is now a higher limit for guaranteed Lucky Pokémon through trade.

  • From now on you can carry out 25 guaranteed luck exchanges per trainer instead of the previous 15.
  • A Guaranteed Lucky Trade will now be activated when you trade a Pokémon with other Trainers that has been in your Pokémon Storage since 2018 or earlier.
  • Tips: From now on, this bonus is valid for an unlimited time and is therefore not tied to the event. That’s why you can, for example, wait for the big “Community Day” on the weekend of December 16th and 17th to use the reduced exchange costs of 50%.

Also: Use the search term “Year2018” in the Pokémon overview to see all the monsters you caught this year. You are now also eligible for the guaranteed happiness exchange. You can adjust the search term depending on the year.

What counts towards the limit when exchanging luck in Pokémon GO?

You should note this: The limit of 25 now applies to all trainers, and if you previously only exhausted 15 guaranteed trades, you now have 10 more lucky trades open. Lucky exchanges that were activated randomly and not during the “guaranteed period” do not currently count towards this limit.

However, trainers in the Pokémon GO community in the subreddit “TheSilphRoad” point out that they may have already exceeded 15 (via reddit). Namely, if, for example, you activated 15 such exchanges yourself with an “old” Pokémon, and then carried out more where the guaranteed luck exchange was triggered by “old” Pokémon from other trainers. Every “Guaranteed” luck exchange counts towards the limit of both trainers.

You cannot see your own status of “guaranteed” exchanges in the game. Accordingly, you can only count or exchange guaranteed lucky Pokémon until it no longer works.

  • On the other hand, its stardust cost is reduced by 50% when leveling up
