Amnesty Ukrainian childrens school attendance and future are threatened

According to Amnesty, Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine has led to widespread disruption of education.

Ukrainians have told Amnesty about Russia’s threats if schooling in Ukraine continues. Some Ukrainian parents have kept their children hidden to avoid taking them to “re-education institutions” for adoption in Russia.

According to Amnesty’s report, children are forced to attend schools based on the Russian curriculum. Amnesty International obtained evidence from 23 education workers and 16 families with school-age children living under Russian occupation.

– Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine has led to a significant and widespread interruption of education. In Russian-occupied territories, intimidation and coercion are a daily reality for families, children and teachers, Amnesty researcher Anna Wright tells.

Russian military patrols have often conducted arbitrary searches on the streets. According to Amnesty, Ukrainian librarians and teachers have, for example, given books to children or taught children secretly.

One mother says that she only let her two children out of their house a couple of times in 9 months, so that they wouldn’t be abducted to Russia.
