She turned 70 – got a Bugatti for over 50 million

The woman received a personal letter from the Bugatti factory inviting her to configure her very own Chiron Super Sport.

Can you think of a more generous gift? (Photo: Bugatti) Hour in and hour out

A big part of buying a Bugatti is visiting the factory located in Molsheim in the south of France, near the German border.

We have previously visited the factory in connection with our test drive of the Bugatti Chiron and got to share in the experience that awaits the customers.

A big part of it all is sitting in what Bugatti calls the studio, where you sit together with a designer and choose from countless configuration options.

Every single detail can be adjusted and Bugatti’s answer to all the requests you as a customer have is “yes” as long as it falls within the framework of the law.

The 70-year-old woman says she saw one Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic at a car museum in Oxnard, California and that for her it was love at first sight.

When the opportunity was then given to customize a very own Chiron Super Sport, the ambition was clear – to make a new interpretation of the very iconic 30’s Bugatti.

Said and done. The woman flew to France to visit the factory and get a tour, which was the start of a nearly year-long process to get the car just right.

The pictures of the car speak for themselves and the result is an elegant story to say the least. The car’s silver-blue paintwork was among the most difficult to achieve.

The head designer of Bugatti’s bespoke department – called Sur Mesure, Jascha Straub, went to Bilbao where an all-original Type 57 SC Atlantic was located.

“The original car had such a huge impact on our customer, which is why we wanted to get the paintwork exactly right.” With him to Bilbao, Jascha brought a number of color samples to ensure that the paint was the same color regardless of the light.

In addition to the paintwork, there are a number of other details that have been developed as an homage to the Type 57. The most obvious is the grille, which has been redesigned into a vertical story, just like on the original car.

A big challenge is the fact that the Chiron Super Sport has an 8-liter W16 with 1,600 horsepower that needs to be cooled down. When you lie down and push at 440 km/h – the car’s “limited” top speed – it is important that the cooling works as it should.

On an unlimited Chiron Super Sport, you can reach over 490 km/h.

The car is called the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport “57 One of One”, as only one car of this type is produced. Inside, you are greeted by a silhouette of the Type 57 on the door panel and it says “57 One of One” in several places in the car.

What the car cost has not been communicated, but a Chiron Super Sport starts at SEK 50 million. The options list is endless and the options are not for price-sensitive customers.

When you order a Koenigsegg, it is possible to double the price of the car using only options. It is not entirely unreasonable that this is also the case for a Bugatti.

It is secret who the buyer is – the only thing known is that it is an American customer in California. It is said that the car will be exhibited at various events in the future.
