As Christmas approaches, more and more packages and Christmas gifts are ordered online. Before Black Friday, Postnord issued a warning about more fraud attempts via SMS, which Nyheter24 previously wrote about. The police have now issued tips on how anyone who is the victim of fraud can report this.
Police hope their new venture will reduce fraud, which Gothenburg Post was the first to report on.
Claims to be from Postnord, Bank-ID or loan company
The scam SMS often claims to be from Postnord, Bank-ID or loan companies. The SMS can be about packages that have not been delivered, logins that need to be renewed or fake loans granted. They often ask the recipient to log in to the Bank ID or call a number.
– It is usually the beginning of a fraud or so-called aging crime, says Anna-Karin Kjellgren, who is a crime prevention officer at the fraud section of the Police Region West, to Göteborgs-Posten.
Here’s how to get rid of the scam SMS
The police are encouraging those who suspect they are the victim of a fraud attempt to forward the hoax SMS to the number 7726. This will alert telecom operators to which numbers are trying to scam people out of money and can thus block further mailings.
