Among both Democrats and Republicans, hesitancy is growing to send additional billions to Ukraine.
During Wednesday, a new support package of 66 billion dollars was voted down in Congress, and President Biden’s goal of obtaining new support for Ukraine before the end of the year is now under threat.
– If we don’t support Ukraine, what will the rest of the world do? asked Biden after Wednesday’s announcement.
“Domestic political game”
But the race does not seem to be completely over. Biden suggests he is willing to compromise on more money for security on the border with Mexico and stricter immigration policies: two demands that Republicans have to debate further.
– This is a domestic political game, but that does not make it any less important. American domestic policy has enormous consequences for the rest of the world, says SVT’s Ukraine correspondent Elin Jönsson.
