The International Olympic Committee will allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in next summer’s Olympics in Paris.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) the government has decidedthat Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed to participate in the Paris Olympics in the summer of 2024.

Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to compete in the Olympics as individual neutral athletes (INA). This means that athletes are not allowed to use the country codes of Russia or Belarus.

International sports federations play a decisive role in the participation of Russians and Belarusians. According to the IOC, athletes must pass their own sport-specific qualifiers or qualifying competitions of the different sports federations in order to be able to participate in the Paris Games.

Teams from Russia or Belarus will not be admitted to the Games.

– Like all other athletes participating in the Olympics, neutral athletes must accept the rules and requirements of the Games, such as those related to anti-doping, the IOC press release states.

The Paris Summer Olympics will start on July 26, 2024.

The six-point list of requirements in the IOC bulletin

In its announcement, the IOC has written down six points that Russian and Belarusian athletes must fill out in order to participate in the Paris Games.

  • Athletes who have made it to the Games through the qualifiers participate in the Games as so-called Individual Neutral Athletes (INA).
  • Teams from Russia or Belarus will not be included in the games.
  • Athletes who actively support the war are not eligible to participate in the Games. Background persons who support the war are also not entitled to participate.
  • Athletes or background persons who have a connection/agreement with the Russian or Belarusian army or the national security service are not entitled to participate.
  • All neutral individual athletes must be committed to the anti-doping rules of the Paris Games, and especially to the anti-doping rules of sports associations.
  • Sanctions targeting the states and governments of Russia and Belarus responsible for the war are still in place. This means: – Flags, national anthems, colors or other emblems of Russia or Belarus are not allowed to be used at the Paris Games.
    – Members of the administration of Russia or Belarus or state officials are not invited or allowed to the games.
