Unintentional insult? Prince Charles asked Natalie Portman a strange Star Wars question
In the USA, Todd Hayne’s highly acclaimed drama May December with Natalie Portman has just started on Netflix. On the associated press tour with talk shows and interviews, the stars are repeatedly asked about anecdotes about previous works and so the talk came back to Portman’s role in Star Wars Episode I. As Variety reported, the actress recalled her meeting with the British royals and this one in particular to Andy Cohen a thing the heir to the British throne wanted to know from her:

I remember Prince Charles, well he was Prince Charles at the time. He asked me if I was in the original[Star Wars-]was filming. And I said: ‘No. I’m 18.’ – But he was very friendly.
To do the math: The first Star Wars film in the original trilogy was released in 1977, the third part, Return of the Jedi, in 1983. This means that in order to star in it, Natalie Portman, born in 1981, would have been 4 years before her birth or have to perform as 2 year olds. Since 1999, the actress has been an integral part of the franchise and once again emphasized that she open to a Star Wars return were. Her character died at the end of Episode III, but with recent prequels and dream sequences reviving Hayden Christensen and other well-known characters, nothing is left in the realm of impossible.
Prince (now King) Charles’ misstep, which was certainly not intended as an insult, can be explained by the fact that the English royal family has to engage in polite conversation when meeting film stars – even if they may not have much knowledge of their films or film history.
Prince Charles’ sons William and Harry turned out to be bigger Star Wars fans and even laid one Star Wars cameo as a Stormtrooper in episode 8.
