Five years ago, Colombian journalist Juan Pablo Barrientos shook his country’s Catholic Church. He revealed for the first time the names of dozens of priests who had sexually abused children and adolescents. The investigative journalist’s investigations had a great impact in the country. They showed that the crimes were covered up by ecclesiastical superiors. This work earned him threats and intimidation. He has just received the press freedom prize from the organization Reporters Without Borders.
