In the statement made by the US Geological Survey (USGS), it was stated that the 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred 10 kilometers north-east of the city of Chiautla de Tapia in the Puebla state of Mexico, at a depth of 45 kilometers. Mexico’s National Seismological Service announced that the earthquake occurred at 14.03 local time.
The earthquake was felt in the state of Puebla, as well as in the surrounding states of Morelos, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Tlaxcala and the capital Mexico City. As the earthquake warning system was activated in Mexico City, Mexicans left their homes and workplaces and took to the streets as the sirens rang. No loss of life or property has been reported yet in the earthquake.
