Survival game for Lord of the Rings celebrates its PS5 release with a new trailer, shows how you survive as a dwarf

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a new survival game coming to PS5 and PC. In the launch trailer, the game shows what the world of JRR Tolkien has in store for you as a dwarf.

What kind of game is this? In this new survival game you take on the role of a dwarf in the world of “Lord of the Rings”.

Alone or online with up to four players, you must survive, explore and cultivate the infamous mines of the Misty Mountains in order to reclaim your home of Moria.

Where is the game released? You have been able to play the game on the PS5 since December 5th, 2023. It has been available for PC since October 24, 2023, and a release for Xbox Series X/S is still pending.

What awaits you: As the trailer shows, you can expect some features in The Lord of the Rings that make a good survival game:

  • Character Customization: You can design your own dwarf completely individually. As the game progresses, you should be able to further customize your dwarf with new equipment.
  • Resources: To survive, you have to collect resources, hunt and manage your food. You mine ores in the mines or explore the deep passages for possible treasures.
  • Fights: There are also dangers lurking in the mines that you have to face. Fight against dragons and orcs to make your homeland safe again.
  • Building and forging: Build new camps of your own design in the ancient ruins or use your dwarven craft to forge new items and equipment.
  • Explore: There are many places for you to explore in the deep mines. Including many old ruins and mining shafts. These procedurally generated areas always promise a new gaming experience.

    • What are the reactions? The reactions to the trailer in the comments (via YouTube) are quite different.

    Many speak positively about the new survival game. For example, user CJ-ln5ov writes in his comment: “Nice to see that Middle-earth games still have a chance after the Gollum flop. This looks fun.”

    The negative reactions seem to predominate

    In fact, very few comments agree with this. In any case, it seems that way because you have to look for them a bit between the rather negative comments.

    However, user Alsann2012 still expresses his joy that there is finally a Lord of the Rings game with dwarves and that this is a dream come true.

    User jordanwilliams1447 writes, among other things: “I have no idea why every Lord of the Rings game has to have this cartoon look now.” User x_Lucifena agrees that this would be quite disappointing.

    “I love Lord of the Rings,” writes user madmandan1000, “but it hurts to see what’s happening to the franchise, to this and to Gollum.”
