With Die Saat – Tödliche Macht a new event series starts this week on ARD – but is it worth it? At first glance, the thriller material seems like a version of The Swarm without the wild sci-fi elements. Top German star Heino Ferch and Norwegian genre great Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Cold Prey, Hansel and Gretel, Westworld) investigate a global conspiracy.

What is The Seed – Deadly Power about?
The ARD series takes place in the far north: the nephew of police trainer Max Grosz (Heino Ferch) is researching in the Norwegian archipelago of Spitsbergen. Victor (Jonathan Berlin) violates the limits of the law and has gotten himself into deadly trouble.
The investigative journalist disappears without a trace and Max travels to the icy region of the Arctic Circle. The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is located there Seed storage intended as a safety store for catastrophic times. Victor was apparently on the trail of a secret related to the memory. Max eventually teams up with his Svalbard colleague Thea Koren (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal). The duo gets entangled in the intrigues of the agricultural world and thus attracts attention themselves.
What do the critics say about Die Saat?
Overall, German critics viewed the six episodes very favorably. The FAZ, for example, saw one “harmonious business thriller”in which the “Zero Eight Fifteen Ideas Luckily” not cause any major damage. This is in line with the impression of the Tagesspiegel: Yes “versatile thriller series” drive “on pretty well-worn tracks”. The seeds are exciting without being particularly original.
The RND adds to this “clichéd characters” added. The “current, highly political topic” as well as “strong images” but console you for the lack of ingenuity. The Aachener Zeitung also finds the recordings of Spitsbergen “impressive“.

Since December 1st, Die Saat has been available for streaming in its entirety with all 6 episodes in the ARD media library. The regular TV broadcast follows on December 9th: four episodes will be shown on ARD from 8:15 p.m. The remaining 2 episodes come the following Sunday from 9:45 p.m.
