The old restrictions were devastating for Christmas tree cultivation just outside Västerfärnebo in Sala municipality. All the land was within the pig pest restrictions, meaning growers could only access 10 per cent of their Christmas trees – the equivalent of just over 700 out of 7,000 trees. They had been refused to take care of the firs, which grow on forest land.
But at the end of November came the news that saved Christmas. The restrictions have been lifted.
– We have missed the two biggest delivery weekends, but can try to save as much as possible. We chase customers and deliveries, says Lisa Nylinder.
Although winter sales are important, it is above all important to now be able to take care of the trees after the holidays.
– So that we can cut to shape and make them well. Otherwise we would have lost several generations of Christmas trees.
