All “Path of Exile” fans can start the new expansion “Affliction” from December 8th. The already packed Hack and Slay becomes even more extensive. In addition to three new Ascendancy classes and a number of new items, a popular game mode is also set to make its return after some absence.

What is the situation? Apart from the top dog “Diablo” from Blizzard Entertainment, there is hardly any hack and slay that comes close to the popularity of “Path of Exile”. Famous for its immense complexity, which is largely due to the skill tree, “Path of Exile” also scores points for the fact that you have been able to hunt monsters for free since its release in 2013. The new expansion “Affliction” doesn’t change that.

The new expansion “Affliction” will be released this Friday

What does the new expansion bring? Although the official successor to the main game will start the closed beta on June 7, 2024, developer Grinding Gear Games is not skimping on extensive changes and expansions for part one. In summary, players can expect the following:

  • “Affliction League”: In this new endgame mode, players encounter strange will-o’-the-wisps that lead the heroes to the so-called “Virtual Dark Forest”. As is typical of the genre, this new area is teeming with monsters. With the help of the lights, the plague that keeps the dark forest under control can be combated.
  • Three new class specifications: In addition to the game’s already highly complex skill system, there are three additional ascendancy classes, essentially subclasses to your current main class. The three call themselves “Guardians of the Maji”, “Warlock of the Mist”, and “Finsterwald Primalist”.
  • There will also be numerous new items, including more than 15 completely new and unique items.

    • This is what you can also expect: The return of “Ultimatum” could be a special highlight for long-time players. The game mode, which was only available for a short time, between April and July 2021, will be permanently included in the main game from the release of the new expansion.

    In “Ultimatum,” players meet the so-called “Trial Master,” who has valuable loot on offer – provided they face his tough tests. If you win the fight, the game gives you a choice: do you secure the loot or do you do everything you can to double your winnings if you win again? Overall, the game will not lose any of its difficulty, this applies to this as well as to previous expansions.

    “Affliction” will keep you busy again for numerous hours. The expansion will be available for PC via Steam from December 8th. Console players will have to be patient a little longer. You can start playing on Playstation and Xbox from December 13th.
