The Ethiopian Sisay Lemma won the Valencia marathon in Spain in 2H01:48, this Sunday, December 3. He sets the sixth fastest time in history and becomes the fourth best performer in the discipline, behind Kiptum and running legends Eliud Kipchoge and Kenenisa Bekele. He also won the Spanish course record, held since last year by the Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum. The Spanish race completes a 2023 season marked by two incredible records over the distance. Among the women, the Ethiopian Tigst Assefa (2H11:53) exploded the old world record by more than two minutes at the end of September. Two weeks later, Kelvin Kiptum erased Eliud Kipchoge from the shelves to get closer to the mythical two-hour mark (2:00:35).
