Fun fact: The town of La Belle (also known as LaBelle) is featured in the series. The city really existed. It is now a ghost town in Taos Country (via IMDb).
2. Deadwood
The series is set in 1876 in the fictional town of Deadwood in what is now South Dakota, a settlement built on Indian territory. But even within the city, murder and corruption are not uncommon.
This is what the IMDb ratings say: On IMDb, Deadwood is rated very well by 114,921 user ratings with an average of 8.6 stars.
The series impresses with a rough and western-typical atmosphere and shows a ruthless city in which intrigues and power struggles are the order of the day.
The complex and sometimes nefarious characters, embodied by well-known actors such as Timothy Olyphant and Ian McSchane, are particularly praised by many viewers. The latter even received a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of the ruthless Al Swearengen in the series.
Fun fact: Actor Powers Boothe was originally slated to play Al Swearengen, but he fell ill before filming of the pilot was scheduled to begin. So Boothe was replaced by Ian McShane, but was given a supporting role in the series with Cy Tolliver (via IMDb).
