Nine people, including two soldiers from the country’s army, have been killed when several people opened fire on a bus in northern Pakistan, according to local police. At least 26 people have been injured and taken to hospital.
The shooting occurred on Saturday night in the Chilas area of the Gilgit Baltistan region. During the shooting, the driver lost control of the bus and collided with a truck, which caught fire. Both drivers died.
Politicians in the region describe the act as an “act of terrorism” and state that a special group should be appointed to investigate the incident and arrest the culprits.
Muhammad Khorasani, spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban movement TTP, in a statement denies any connection to the shooting and states that it was not carried out by their group.
