The public television channels ARD and ZDF are trying to keep up with Netflix and Disney+ and are increasingly showing their own event series. The most prominent example comes from ZDF, which this year published the most expensive German series, Der Schwarm.
On December 1, 2023, ARD will release a similar thriller initially in the media library: The Seed – Deadly Power is not sci-fi, but overlaps in many areas with the Frank Schätzing adaptation. Heino Ferch also examines a country-spanning mystery with an ecological foundation – like in Der Scharm, Die Saat is about environmental issues. In addition, the production has an international touch.
Conspiracy in Norway: That’s what Die Saat is about
The nephew of the police trainer Max Grosz (Heino Ferch) is doing research in the Norwegian archipelago of Spitsbergen. Victor (Jonathan Berlin) violates the limits of the law and has gotten himself into deadly trouble.
The investigative journalist disappears without a trace and Max travels to the region to Norway. The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is located there Seed storage intended as a safety store for catastrophic times. Victor was apparently on the trail of a secret related to the memory. Max eventually teams up with his Svalbard colleague Thea Koren (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal). The duo gets entangled in the intrigues of the agricultural world and thus attracts attention themselves.
The cast of Die Saat is high quality. With Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, the renowned German actor Heino Ferch is supported by one of the most famous Norwegian actresses. You know Berdal, among other things, from the elaborate Sci-fi series Westworld and the horror film Cold Prey.
