(Finance) – Italian Railway Network has published a tender worth 494.5 million euros to equip the level crossings of PAI-PL (Automatic Integrative Level Crossing Protection) technology, already widely present on the national territory and constantly spreading. In fact, the progress of the installation activities of the innovative system on the national infrastructure is progressing in compliance with a priority ranking defined on the basis of a risk index identified according to specific guidelines.
The PAI-PL it is an integrative technology dedicated to the detection of obstacles in the area delimited by closed barriers which is based on laser or radar systems capable of detecting the presence of obstacles or obstructions on the railway track and safely stopping railway traffic. The tender notice for the realization and the maintenance of PAI-PL systems, aimed only at subjects currently in possession of approval or qualification, is divided into 6 lots: 3 lots for radar technology and 3 lots for laser technology.
Following the design executive, the creation of PAI-PL systems involves: the installation of radar or laser detection units and technological cabinets; laying of technological cables; construction of civil works such as bases and supports; software and system modifications to the level crossing affected by the equipment; Authorization for Commissioning (AMIS).
There publication of the tender is part of the broader 3 billion investment plan for ordinary and extraordinary maintenance interventions scheduled during 2023 implemented by RFI to raise the standards of efficiency, reliability and safety of the network.
