Paris resident faces charges after being barricaded in building

A 39-year-old Paris resident was taken to hospital with minor injuries Thursday morning after police said the person barricaded themselves in a residential building on Grand River Street North Wednesday night.

Brant OPP officers responded to a disturbance at the building at about 7:30 pm Wednesday. Police say the person “initially refused to exit the residence” but was eventually apprehended by police on Thursday at about 7:50 am

Responding to the incident were the OPP West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), the Emergency Response Team (ERT), crisis negotiators, the canine division, and paramedics.

Police say the accused is in custody and facing criminal charges.

A section of Grand River Street North, which had been closed, is now open to traffic.
