Peter Forsberg’s heartwarming gesture to help children and young people deserves all the praise: “Of course you will be touched”

It has been over twelve years since Peter Forsberg ended his hockey career.
Now he has a new venture.
– It felt like a fantastic project and I saw right in front of me how fun it would be, says “Foppa” to ATG.

Peter Forsberg is one of the greatest Swedish hockey players of all time. Among other things, he won two Olympic golds, two World Cup golds, and also won the Stanley Cup on two occasions with his Colorado Avalanche.

Fop in the NHL

After emerging in Modo, “Foppa” was drafted in 1991 by the Philadelphia Flyers. It wasn’t until the 1994/1995 season that Forsberg played in the NHL, then in the Québec Nordiques. After one season at the club, he moved on to Colorado. There, Foppa became an icon, and has his number, 21, retired and raised in the Ball Arena. In total, he played 15 seasons in the NHL.

During his time in North America, Forsberg and the team did a lot of charity and good deeds.
– When I played in the NHL, we often visited hospitals and various projects. For my own part, it was a good wake-up call, you shouldn’t complain too much as there are others who have it much tougher. It is clear that you are touched if it is a young hockey fan who you know will pass away shortly, those memories remain. Then you feel quite powerless, he tells ATG.

Forsberg’s work

Now Foppa continues his work with charity. The 50-year-old has become an ambassador for ATG Drömfond, which works to provide financial support to important and inclusive associations connected to health.
– It felt like a fantastic project and I saw right in front of me how fun it would be to be involved. Precisely what ATG Drömfond stands for, I think is missing a bit in the social debate, where we highlight associations and people who just want to help. We need to be reminded of all the positive things happening around Sweden, says Forsberg.

In his work, Foppa has visited some of these associations, met the people in the clubs and participated in activities. He is reminded of when he himself was young and had sport as the most important thing in his life.
– As a little boy, I myself had the chance to do sports. With luck and flow, I was able to make a living from hockey, but hockey for me is above all joy and community. You end up in a positive context, make friends and get to move around. Without sports, I don’t know what I would have done instead, says Forsberg to ATG.
